How to Choose an Employee of the Month:
Every organization has a different but a broadly common frame of parameters for choosing their Employee of the Month. Some HR managers / founders / owners choose to experiment more frequently with the parameters monthly or quarterly while some choose to keep it consistent.
One of the following guiding principles are generally followed:
- Standard criterion apply unless changed.
- Monthly or quarterly parameters for choosing the EoTM.
- EoTM nominations invited from other employees.
- EoTM shortlist prepared by HR with inputs from immediate supervisors in each department.
Most commonly used parameters (not necessarily recommended by us) include:
- Individual Achievement
- Contribution
- Communication
- Ownership
- Respect
- Integrity
- Professionalism
- Teamwork
While either of these can be used on a consistent / experimentation basis by an organization, we recommend having a set of measurable and objective parameters for creating a shortlist and possibly further nominations taken from fellow employees and immediate supervisors.
This keeps the trust of the employees in the process, reduces the possibility of subjectivity and bias to creep in to the process and makes the initiative somewhat immune to misuse.
